Namaskaram. Please help us know how a ragam should be
Sandeep Narayan:
When trying to learn and understand a ragam, it always
Vivadhi ragams (ragams with dissonant notes) were once considered "dosham" or sinful, and many musicians actually told others to avoid performing them!
But why was it considered that way? Was it because they are generally more difficult to tackle when compared with non-vivadhi ragams? Or is there something more to it?
In this workshop, I hope to get rid of this myth that there is something mystical or even negative about "vivadhi" ragams, and explain why they aren't so bad after all.
This workshop will include both the theory behind vivadhi notes as well as diving into several examples of vivadhi ragams. Finally I will teach one krithi (song) in a vivadhi ragam.
This is going to be an Interactive Masterclass. I am happy to answer any specific questions you may have regarding the topics above. This session ends with a brief Q&A interaction. Registered participants may also pre-submit questions, I will try addressing them online earlier or during the session.
Messages can be submitted by the attendees of the session till 1 hour before the session starts.
